M4: How does the exported material meet the client brief

Image
Client brief: To create a magazine front cover I must ensure all of the pages are the correct dimensions. A typical magazine is 21.59cmX27.94cm so I must set up my page like this. My magazine is set to 30dpi because it is considered to be higher quality for print because more dots results in more pixels. However, if I wanted to distribute my magazine pages digitally I should use 72DPI as it is a high quality bandwidth efficient resolution for web pages whereas lower resolution will look bad. My exported magazine matches the client brief because i have thoroughly researched the codes and conventions of real magazines to aid in the production of my own.  Front cover export:  Contents page export: Double page spread export: As you can see, i decided to export my magazine as a tiff file as that is a high-quality file format that other magazines use and is widely used for print product like magazines and newspapers. For the front cover, ...

M3: Genre, Codes and Conventions

Image
Codes and Conventions of a magazine For this report i will be writing about the codes and conventions of real magazines. I will explain how my 'Anti' magazine and assets follow the unwritten rules of magazine and the layouts. The repetition and difference theory by Steve Neale (1988) states that 'Genres must all contain some instances of repetition and some instances of difference, difference is essential to the economy of the genre'. To ensure my magazine ties into this theory, i am following codes and conventions of magazines that are already published (which is the repetition), but i am basing my magazine around the success of Juice WRLD (which is the difference). This is my masthead for my Anti magazine. A masthead is a logo that goes on the front of the magazine and is clearly seen to show the brand name or magazine name. I decided to use this name because it relates to the person it is based on as Juice WRLD has a tattoo that reads 'ANTI' on his arm, whi...

M2 Legal and ethical

Legal & Ethical There are many different laws and regulations I need to follow to ensure my magazine is legally and ethically correct. There will be punishments that would be enforced if I do not follow these things, such as going to prison, being sued for copyright infringement, cause offence to people. In this report, I will discuss the different things I have to consider while creating my magazine Copyright & Creative Commons Copyright is a law that states that it a set of rights given to the original owner for a fixed amount of years which gives them full rights to to print, publish, perform, film or record; copyright stops other people from using the work of an artist without their permission as if they do this the artist or management could take legal action against them. Throughout the production of my 'Anti' magazine i am taking these rules into consideration by taking my own photographs and editing them, which takes awa...

M1: Justify Content, Distribution & Marketing methods identified for the planned production to meet a client brief

Image
Content My magazine will be created by following conventions of magazines. On my front cover my masthead will be on the top as it is easily seen when magazines are stacked on shelves. Using fonts, colours, themes and layouts I will make sure my magazine draws the attention of my target audience as my target audience love rap music. I will place my puff on the top right of my page as I want the magazine to contain an incentive to buy; I will put my puff in a black circle so that it stands out against the rest of the text. I have used purple as a main colour on my magazine as it is a calm and luxurious colour. Also, purple was Juice WRLD's favourite colour and it matched the magazine and then linked back to theme of the magazine. I am going to use a font called Lemon Milk as it is sharp and modern and matches the magazine really well. On the front cover I will have an image of my model with his body turned away however he turns his head, which was meant to resemble Juice WRLD ...

P5: Post-production techniques and processes to produce a media product

Image
P5: Post-production Techniques This is the original unedited version of the photo that i used for my Juice WRLD 'Anti' magazine.  I chose to edit all of my photos in Photoshop as that is a professional photo editing tool and i used photoshop to finish the photo the way i wanted for my magazine. The first thing i did to the photo was change the levels of the photo, which included brightness and contrast. Next i removed all of the blemishes and imperfections that my model has using the Spot healing tool and healing brush. Next i used the object selection tool and cut out the models head so i could have a seperate layer. Then i pasted the new head layer and renamed it above so that i adjustments i made on layers below wouldnt affect it. On the photo layer i added a hue/saturation edit to turn the green leaves into a cool purple colour to better match my genre. Also, i edited the brightness and contrast of the picture to ensure i had the correct shades and colours and intensity. Al...

P4: Create production materials to be used in the original media product

Image
For this report i will be writing about the materials I created in preparation for the production of the actual magazine. I will explain how my 'Anti' magazine and assets follow the unwritten rules of magazine and the layouts.  This is my masthead for my Anti magazine. A masthead is a logo that goes on the front of the magazine and is clearly seen to show the brand name or magazine name. I decided to use this name because it relates to the person it is based on as Juice WRLD has a tattoo that reads 'ANTI' on his arm, which means fans of Juice WRLD will recognise this and therefore the correct audience will be consuming my product. I have used Adobe Photoshop to create this masthead and designed it to look simple and luxurious, i did this because it fits the genre of my magazine. Double page spread article text: " Juice WRLD went from unknown teen to a chart-topping sensation in just under a year. Juice offers a whole catalogue of admirably honest freestyles about d...

P3: Planning documents

Image
Photoshoot plans I am going to use one of my friends as a model as a rapper for my Anti magazine. I will ensure my friend will be wearing luxury clothing to match the genre of my magazine. I want to get a medium shot of my model, which i will use a tripod and a camera to ensure the shot is straight. I will take multiple pictures and edit them to make them feel like they belong in a rap magazine.  I want to make sure that the pictures i take of my model for contents page and double page spread are taken in front of a white backdrop so i can crop the model out better and use my own background in production. I want to have an aspect of nature in my photos because Juice WRLD always appreciate nature and enjoyed things like animals and plants.   Model Release form: Here is my model release form for use of photographs on my Anti magazine. I have signed permission from both parties so neither party can take legal action. Gantt chart: Production Schedule: Equipment list: Risk As...

P2: Sample materials

Image
As a part of my planning i struggled to settle on one name for my magazine, so i athered a little market research and published a vote for my peers to decide on either 2 options: WRLD EVOLVED or WRLD EQUALIZED. The final vote was WRLD EVOLVED so that is what I decided to go with. Visualisation diagram: Mastheads design for your magazine Here is the first design for the masthead. It is clearly linked to Juice WRLD and is bold and bright to help it stand out.   However after some research I chose to change this masthead and the magazine name. I changed my masthead to this name because the term 'WRLD' is copyrighted by Juice WRLD so i had to change it to avoid any legal issues. I changed it to ANTI as it still links to Juice WRLD through one of his tattoos. Here are some more mastheads and images that I will take inspiration from such as the composition of the photos and the positioning of the mastheads.
